It's been a while...

Ok, I'm going back to hitting this blog up consistently. A lot has changed since the last time I blogged so there's a lot of catching up to do. I will be posting new interviews from www.KEEPNIT100TV.com and new video's that I've personally worked on. Yes, I am now doing videos from promo vids, commercials to music videos. The video camera feeds my creativity in a different way. Am I still making music? Yes, I was born with music in my blood. I could never put the keyboard down. But, bringing the visual side to music triggers my creativity differently so It's something that I'm definitely pursuing. Stay tuned!

New Project!!!!

Things were getting lined up and the pieces were coming into place but the timing was not right until recently. Something just hit to start this new business adventure. I have the right people now it's about making sure everything is in place to take the next step. This is going to be huge! More importantly, it will create more opportunites for everyone and that's what it is all about. There's a lot to put together including how to bring it out to the public. Whatever we think about, it's going to be a success. Months of strategic planning has been into this. Thinking about launching it end of Q1 or middle of Q2 next year. Stay tuned!!!!

Business 101 - Things that were taught to me.

In business, it's not just about making moves. Your moves have to have an END RESULT. In other words, are these moves MOVING towards your goal? People make moves everyday for YEARS and is still not close to their GOAL. Make your moves count and make sure they are going towards your GOAL. Another thing I learned is the TIMING of making moves. Timing is as important or sometimes even more important then the moves itself. Knowing when to make the move is a skill that we all must definitely learn to be successful. Making a move too early can ruin everything. Making a move too late can result in a missed opportunity. TIMING is very important. Like a batter swinging for the ball, the swung has to be made in the right time to maximize not only hitting the ball but to increase the chances of the batter getting to base...or even better...getting a HOMERUN. Then it's about knowing where to HIT the ball. Meaning, knowing which move to make. That's a whole different beast within itself and probably takes the longest to master.

Another skill to learn is setting things up. In business terms "Positioning". Putting things in the right places so when the TIME comes for you to MOVE in a direction, it's already set up. Some people, visionaries, are so good at POSITIONING that the opportunity goes to them. The visionaries that mastered this, can also control WHEN the opportunity goes to them. When it does, it's all set because everything is positioned for the next step. Position is not necessarily making a "move" but setting things up for the "move". This is another IMPORTANT skill to learn.

Patience but knowing when to strike. Like a Lion looking for a meal. They are patient, POSITIONING themselves to make the MOVE. But they will wait. Plot out exactly how they are going to strike. Watch. Analyze. When the TIME is right, they will make the MOVE and don't stop until they EAT! If they are not positioned right, if they make the move to early or too late, if their timing is off, they just lost out on a meal.

There are several components. These are just a few that were taught to me by business executives. I'm fortunate enough to not only hear about it, but I seen how it was done. I received hands on visual training on how to EXECUTE a game plan. Some were fast and some took years. One of the biggest things I learned was the ability to ADAPT. But that will be on another blog.

Get Familiar

Peep game. Peezzay went over my studio w/ Enoch (Enoch's firt time). I already knew Peezzay got bars from other songs that I produced for him. Peezzay went to the computer and downloaded a beat that they were going to record over. The beat was made by Amp/DJ Abbico. I played the beat and it was FIRE!! So we got down to it. I'm going to tell you this - Peezzay and Enoch is a lethal combination. These verses put my microphone in a colma! The hook is catchy and smooth! With the hot beat, they made a DOPE TRACK!! I got down to it and put my creativity in the mix. After all is said and done, I believe the song is gaining a lot of traction in BELGIUM! "Who does that"??!! LOL! Out of country recognition! Mos def props to Enoch & Peezzay for doing what they do best. Props to Amp/DJ Abbico for making a hot beat! Below is the product. Listen & "GET FAMILIAR"!

SCOTT STORCH GOT TORCH!

I don't care what anyone says, Scott Storch is one of the sickest producers/MUSICIANS out there. He's a one man band. Not that there's anything wrong with having a team of musicians on your side but I'm just saying. He's piano knowledge/skills is crazy. He uses the piano like I've never seen anybody use it. The sounds he can replicate through the keys is what separates him from other producers. He's also responsible for a lot of 50's hits including the track that made everyone "LEAN BACK" for like an entire year. Also the piano rift on Still Dre. That track with Eve and Gwen Stefani. This producer has made HITS! Yes, he tried to battle one of greatest ever (TIMBALAND) which was a definite mistake on his part and hopefully he learned from that. But that takes nothing away from his talent. I'm not on the guy, just saying he's dope and should be considered as one of the best producers out there. Again, just my opinion.

David Sides is insane on the KEYS!

So, I was going through some piano vids and came across David Sides. If you don't know him already then you haven't seen talent on the keys yet. Check out his youtube account. Bottom line is this guy is INSANE on the piano! MAJOR TALENT! Peep his version of Lil Wayne's "Lollipop".

Managing Projects

One of the toughest things that I'm coming accross right now is managing projects. Maybe I take on too many all the same time but the work is piling up. I guess that's a good thing but only if it's managed correctly. I'm starting to develop somewhat of a process to streamline the whole thing but it's still difficult. The last thing I want to do is say that I'm going to give beats to somebody then have it get lost in the pile. Not saying that some people don't have priority because I believe that everyone is priority but that's how some artists will perceive it.

The good thing I have more experienced individuals that I can get advice from to help with some direction. Again, a lot of projects is good...means that the network is growing. But projects not managed correctly or not attended is bad business. So, for all of you producers/beat makers that is trying to get in the industry, manage your projects when people start asking you for beats for their album/mixtape. Sometimes, it's ok to say "no, I don't have the time right now...but you will soon". Manage and take care of each project that you are on. Make sure that you talk to the artists about the direction they want especially if you are the Executive Producer (like I am on a couple of albums). Each project you are given can either build or break your resume/reputation. Conduct good business.

BET Cyphers

First off, shout out to @LadyBirdSF. Last night, I stopped by the Excelsior Teen Center to pick up some donation envelopes for myself and BarNone. I'm telling you this, they are doing something great for the community. Spending time there confirmed that we really have nothing to complain about. Every Wednesday, they are giving food to the people. Leah (@LadyBirdSF) stated that it was the first time where all of the teens that goes to ETC helped out! My point is: here we are everyday complaining about traffic when we go to work. Complaining about paying rent or mortgage. Complaing about not having cable. There are people out there that wish they had our so-called problems. There are people that don't even have a TV or a roof over there head. There are people that don't even have jobs! Yet, we complain and complain. C'mon..WAKE UP! Next time you say "I'm having a bad day" or "My life sucks" ask yourself this question: "Compared to what".

Ok, moving a long. After they gave the food out, Leah, myself and teens sat infront of the computer watching the BET awards 2009 Cypher. These videos are DOPE!

All you food connoisseurs, grub a lot lifestyle, or if you just plain love food go check out www.WeEating.com "The First Urban Food Show". Seriously, this show is sick. They take you to different spots out here and show you the get down of each restaurant. How I got introduced to the We Eating Family: BarNone was at the studio one day and he asked if @GUS415 1/2 of the We Eating Fam (Gus) could stop by. From that point it was good. BarNone has a way of bringing good folx together so mos def shout out to BarNone! Gus also brought the other face of We Eating to the studio SBC DJ Big Jon. Both are good peeps! Back to the show, once again, it's a dope show and the concept is crazy. There's really no one out here doing what they are doing. I give these guys a lot of props due to their vision and their hustle! I'm going to post their 6th Episode on here because this spot is the shit! It's an Ice Cream spot called Mitchell's Ice Cream. If you don't know the spot and your in the Bay Area, step your GAME WAY UP! If you're not from the Bay, definitely go check them out. Warriors World TV

I was very fortunate to be approached by Rasheed from Warriors World TV on twitter to brew up a beat for their online TV show. He had asked me to create an uptempo beat that would end up being the intro for show. Immediately I got to work. The next day, BarNone who I've been working with for years texted me and asked me if Rashad hit me up. Well, come to find out, BarNone was going to be the artist rapping on the beat that I created! What had happened was, Rasheed asked Gus from www.WeEating.com who made the intro to their show and BarNone was the artist rapping but the beat was made by K-RO who I collab w/ a lot on beats. I made the beat, sent it to Rashad and he Ok'd it. Sent it BarNone, a couple of days later the track was made. Sent it back to Rashad, he asked to make a couple of changes and submitted it again...

Today, I received a tweet from @warriorsworld with a link and it said "check the intro". I peep'd the video and it was Warriors World TV interviewing Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors...the intro was the beat that I did with BarNone droppin bars on it! A BIG SHOUT OUT TO RASHEED FROM WARRIORS WORLD TV! PEEP THE VIDEO!!
